READING OF THE DAY
A reading from the Book of Numbers
With their patience worn out by the journey,
the people complained against God and Moses,
“Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in this desert,
where there is no food or water?
We are disgusted with this wretched food!”
In punishment the LORD sent among the people saraph serpents,
which bit the people so that many of them died.
Then the people came to Moses and said,
“We have sinned in complaining against the LORD and you.
Pray the LORD to take the serpents from us.”
So Moses prayed for the people, and the LORD said to Moses,
“Make a saraph and mount it on a pole,
and if any who have been bitten look at it, they will live.”
Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole,
and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent
looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to John
Jesus said to Nicodemus:
“No one has gone up to heaven
except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,
so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross
GOD’S WORD FOR US
Dear People of God,
Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The Word of God in today’s Gospel proclaims to all humanity that Jesus Christ is God, a God of Love. God’s love is expressed through the sign of the Cross of Jesus Christ.
The image of Jesus Christ crucified, died and hung on the cross shows of God’s infinite love for Humanity. He sacrificed his own body, died to atone for the sins of all human beings. Jesus Christ took the sins of all mankind upon Himself and was crucified. The more sins human have, the more nails the body of Jesus Christ was hold.
The sign of Jesus Christ’s love for humanity is manifested from the Old Testament times to the New Testament times.
That sign is expressed in the Word of God saying to Moses: “Make a saraph and mount it on a pole, and if any who have been bitten look at it, they will live.” God did this the people sinned to have complained against God and Moses. They have committed a sin against God. Therefore, God permitted evil to happen by allowing poisonous snakes to bite so a lots of people were killed. Only after the people sinned and were bitten to death by a snake did the people realize that they had sinned against God and Moses. Therefore, they ran to ask God to forgive their sins, and their prayers weres answered by God. He showed mercy to save the people by instructing Moses to mount the bronze serpent on a pole, so that whoever believes in the Word of God that was spoken through Moses and looks at the bronze serpent will be saved from death.
God’s Redemptive Love has been manifested since the Old Testament times and extends to the present day. It is an image of a loving Jesus Christ dying and hanging on the cross.
Today, God also invites His sinful children: to look up the Cross of love, to sincerely recognize how our sins have offended God and others so that we can repent and turn to God. Let’s ask God to forgive and cleanse all our sins, and grant us healing so that we can attain eternal life.
God let us know that in this world, everyone is a sinner. Therefore, He died hanging on the cross so that anyone who looks up at that Cross, believes in God’s love, asks Him for forgiveness, asks Him for the grace of conversion, will attain eternal life with him forever in His Kingdom, the happinest place where human is looking for. The Cross of God’s salvation of love will last forever until the end of time.
God came to earth to save mankind. He never condemned, judged, or brought bad things to people. Rather He gave His life to die only for the love of mankind.. Therefore, He invites all His children to truly repent of our sins as we look up at the cross where God Himself is present, where He was crucified and died for the redemption of mankind. Whoever want to have resurrection life with Jesus Christ should look to the cross of love, practise God’s teachings and his soul will be saved.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
